Mary's Story
Mary's Story

From December 2006 to October 2007, Mary found a family to support her at Dismas House of Michiana. Before Dismas, drugs prevented Mary from being a good parent and eventually led to her arrest. Through her hard work and the assistance she received, Mary learned how to be accountable to herself and others. Mary learned the meaning of family; she learned how to cook healthy meals and become a more responsible mom. Today, Mary now leads a life without drugs and has maintained a full-time job for over one year.

Mary writes of Dismas:

Active Image“Dismas gave me a secure sense of belonging. The healing and safety of the program prepared me for learning how to live, one day at a time. The friends I’ve made have supported me through beautiful and hard situations this year. The love and guidance has helped me learn to love myself and shown me a healthy role model for loving my children.

Dismas taught me healing and forgiveness are available to anyone who seeks it. From chores to laundry, through the every day accountability of belonging to a family, Dismas has given me a secure foundation to start my new way of life.

I’m grateful for my new future and everyone who helps make this possible. I love that I have a purpose and a place at the Dismas table and look forward to staying involved with new residents and sharing my journey.”
